How many ventilation units should I install?

In a residential context, air change rates are predominantly based on the number of occupants in a room or home. This means that whether a bedroom is 15 or 30 m² in size doesn’t really matter — what matters is how many people occupy it. For new homes, the number of ventilation units is driven by the requirements of the National Construction Code (NCC). You can also refer to our NCC 2022 Mechanical Ventilation Calculator for homes and apartments.
In existing homes, you have much more flexibility. You can choose which rooms you would like to benefit from continuous fresh air and heat recovery. A typical arrangement is to install a ventilation unit in each bedroom. Personally, we are very fond of humidity‑controlled ventilation in bathrooms. However, you may also have a study or work area, or a kitchen–living space, that would benefit from expelling stale or polluted air while supplying fresh air.
And if you’re undecided, why not start with just one unit and see the difference for yourself? You may quickly be convinced of the many benefits that premium ventilation can offer your home.
